Abstract:
In the NICU, an infant and caregiver’s ability to work together and feed effectively is strong indicator of physiological progress and overall health. Though we often speak of the nutritional benefits of human milk for this vulnerable population, we might not always consider other benefits of breast/body feeding that can have lifelong impacts on infant and dyadic development. In this presentation, we will take an in-depth look at the social emotional, sensory, and motor outcomes of breast/body feeding and explore ways to support infants and caregivers through their feeding choices.
