Dr. Nicholas Embleton brings to this conference his 25 years of international experience in the neonatal field. He has worked as a Consultant Neonatal Pediatrician in Newcastle, UK since 2002. His career has spanned conducting research focused on nutrition and gut health in preterm infants, completing a neonatal fellowship in Vancouver, Canada, participating as a project team member of large neonatal feeding trials, chairing the multi-disciplinary UK Neonatal Nutrition Network, and participating as a member of the Committee of Nutrition for ESPGHAN.

This presentation will offer an in-depth examination of a growing area in neonatology. During “Probiotics in Preterm Infants” we’ll have a unique opportunity to focus on the gut microbiome specifically in the neonate. Dr. Embleton will examine what the latest research shows us and how this information can guide our use of probiotics. We’ll learn about the interaction between breast milk nutrients and the microbiome, the role of probiotics, and the practical steps and potential risks in the use of probiotics with preterm infants.
